SiMPLiFY Posted July 28, 2012 Share #1 Posted July 28, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have Leica M2's and cannot afford the Leica Digital Camera Bodies. I would however like to use an affordable (consumer) Nikon Digital with my Leica Lenses. Is there an adapter available that will allow me to do this? The only one I have been able to find is for the Nikon 1. Thanks.
Advertisement Posted July 28, 2012 Posted July 28, 2012 Hi SiMPLiFY, Take a look here Adapter for Leica M mount to Nikon F mount?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
RobertJRB Posted July 28, 2012 Share #2 Posted July 28, 2012 The distance from lens to sensor is way shorter with the leica than with the nikon slr's. So leica m lenses won't fit. You need a camera with a shorter lens/ sensor distance than that of leica to fit the adapter. So what u need is a mirrorless. Good ones for leica lenses are the ricoh m module (don't even need an adapter) or the sony nex 5n with an adapter. The nikon 1 might fit but due to the really small sensor even wide angle leica's become telelenses on that one.
mmradman Posted July 28, 2012 Share #3 Posted July 28, 2012 Sounds about right. Nikon 1 has short registry and also small sensor so with 2.6x multiplier 50mm lens on M2 will be 130mm on Nikon 1, clearly limit and advantage depending what type of photography you wish to do. About registry; lenses can be shared between M2 and digital alternative but it can only work with digital camera with shorter registry distance than M camera of 27.8mm - registry is distance between film (or sensor) plane and lens mounting flange. Such cameras are compact system cameras from Micro 3/4 range (Panasonic, Olympus), Sony NEX, new Canon M and Nikon 1 range.
SiMPLiFY Posted July 28, 2012 Author Share #4 Posted July 28, 2012 Seriously looking at sony nex 5n with an adapter. The 7 is nice but the 5 is less expensive. Thanks for leading me in the right direction.
FlorianM Posted July 28, 2012 Share #5 Posted July 28, 2012 I'd have a close look at an M8 as well.
bill Posted July 28, 2012 Share #6 Posted July 28, 2012 Rich GXR with module-M. Optimised for use with Leica lenses. Gives best results with Zeiss glass in my experience. I also use it with Nikon lenses using a Novoflex adaptor. Regards, Bill Sent from another Galaxy
spydrxx Posted July 28, 2012 Share #7 Posted July 28, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Depending on your lens, some are usable on regular Nikon F mount digital bodies. Basically, those are the lenses which can be used with the Visoflex, the 65mm Elmar, several of the 90s and up. You need the appropriate focusing mount (it is dependent on the lens/ lens head) and a Visoflex to Nikon adapter (I'v used one from Cameraquest for about 12-13 years). Anything below the 65mm is too short to be used on Nikon bodies, except as really close macros.
SiMPLiFY Posted July 28, 2012 Author Share #8 Posted July 28, 2012 Thanks. I've decided on the sony nex 5n because of price. Digital bodies become worthless so fast these days. The M2's seem to be holding their value for some reason. My lenses are old: 35mm f/2.8 Summaron (FINALLY!) chrome 50mm f/2.8 Elmar collapsible chrome 90mm f/4 Elmar chrome For aesthetics I think the white body will look pretty with the chrome lenses.
