pico Posted July 4, 2012 Share #1 Posted July 4, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) If I find my Leica TAN number (unlikely), would I nonetheless have to purchase LR-4? (originally had earlier, working version of LR but upgraded.) I cannot find my Leica TAN number because it is not in the warrantee booklet because the booklet was sent in with the camera for a repair and replaced with a new one w/o TAN. Advertisement Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 Hi pico, Take a look here Lightroom 4, serial number, TAN. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Phil U Posted July 4, 2012 Share #2 Posted July 4, 2012 If you never used your tan to obtain a lightroom licence then it is still good for a lr4 licence. Email solms with your serial number etc and perhaps thy can tell you what the tan is or give you another? If you did get a licence via your tan then that is it and upgrades are your responsibility and cost after that.
pico Posted July 4, 2012 Author Share #3 Posted July 4, 2012 Thanks, Phil. I'm screwed. Ah, I never liked LR anyway. (some sour fruit there)
lct Posted July 4, 2012 Share #4 Posted July 4, 2012 I'm aware of order numbers ("Verk. Nr.") and serial numbers ("Fabr. Nr.") on Leica warranty cards but i've never seen a "TAN Nr." on them so far. What does TAN mean if i may ask? Nothing to do with taxes i guess.
algrove Posted July 5, 2012 Share #5 Posted July 5, 2012 (edited) @Ict--If you buy a new M9 there is a TAN number assigned to that specific camera (who knows what TAN means) in the Manual/paperwork that allows you to upload LR at no charge since LR as you must know is included with the new camera. I cannot remember as it has been too long ago now, but I do believe that number is also used to register your M9 with Leica. What Leica model do you own then? @Phil-If my memory serves me correctly, I thought the TAN gave you LR including upgrades. Mine was loaded onto a computer I no longer use now so cannot easily check on that. The Leica paperwork must be clear about this point though. lct Posted July 5, 2012 Share #6 Posted July 5, 2012 Perhaps it is specific to the M9 and/or LR i don't know. My cam (M8.2) has exactly the same numbers as my lenses: order number ("Verk. Nr.") and serial number ("Fabr. Nr."). Nothing else so far.
thotan Posted July 5, 2012 Share #7 Posted July 5, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) If you have a current install of Lightroom with a working serial number you can always download a new copy of the program from Adobe.com. Just register for an evaluation copy and then during the install of LR you will get the option to fill in your own serial number. The TAN number will allow for three downloads of Lightroom form Leica but if you can´t find it I guess contacting Leica is the only option. /Thomas
Phil U Posted July 5, 2012 Share #8 Posted July 5, 2012 @Phil-If my memory serves me correctly, I thought the TAN gave you LR including upgrades. Mine was loaded onto a computer I no longer use now so cannot easily check on that. The Leica paperwork must be clear about this point though. It is my understanding that you don't get free upgrades. When you submit your TAN via Leica's owner's site you get a LR licence number in exchange. That licence is specific to the current release of LR. To upgrade to a new version e.g. From 3 to 4, or 4 to 5 in the future, then you need a new licence number which you will have to purchase via Adobe. You do get free incremental upgrades from Adobe e.g. 4.1, 4.2 etc but those are issued free by Adobe to anyone who has a licensed copy of that version of LR (version 4 in my example) not just Leica users.
algrove Posted July 5, 2012 Share #9 Posted July 5, 2012 Perhaps it is specific to the M9 and/or LR i don't know. My cam (M8.2) has exactly the same numbers as my lenses: order number ("Verk. Nr. and Fabr.Nr for the M9 and I believe S2 also.
Guest Posted March 13, 2017 Share #10 Posted March 13, 2017 What happens in this scenario: You sell a camera which you have used the TAN to download Lightroom. You deregister by deleting from your Owner's Area account. Someone buys your camera and wants to download the Lightroom or trial software with that same TAN?
