mbarzegar Posted May 8, 2012 Share #1 Posted May 8, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am looking at buying a used M8 and need to determine the shutter count. The seller does not know as he bought it used. The latest picture shot on the camera was assigned L9997077.jpg by the camera. I am having a hard time determining which part of this file name is the folder name and which part is the hexadecimal number that needs to be converted. Any ideas? Thanks. lct Posted May 8, 2012 Share #2 Posted May 8, 2012 Welcome to the forum. If it is an original file, just drop it on the M8Info icon.
mbarzegar Posted May 8, 2012 Author Share #3 Posted May 8, 2012 Thanks! It's great to be part of this forum! Thanks for the link. I installed the application but when I drag the file onto the open window of the application it says it is not a valid file. I am wondering what might be causing this? Perhaps the memory card was not formatted properly and has some data from before.
jaapv Posted May 8, 2012 Share #4 Posted May 8, 2012 Mac or PC? Btw, the hex unique image ID is not in the file name, but in the EXIF file.
mbarzegar Posted May 8, 2012 Author Share #5 Posted May 8, 2012 Thanks Jaap! I use a Mac. I used an Exif viewer. The only data that might be relevant is the following: EXIF Version {0x9000} 0220. Is this the image id? I can't find any other field labeled image id. If so, then I presume I need to convert 220 from hexadecimal which would be 544 in decimal. jaapv Posted May 8, 2012 Share #6 Posted May 8, 2012 (edited) You need to use the original file and convert from raw and save. It is not very relevant, as any shutter problem that might arise (not very likely, but possible) is not related to shutter count. There have counts of over 300.000 reported in this forum. If the camera is clean and not worn it is unlikely to have gone past 10.000 anyway. Edited May 8, 2012 by jaapv

I am wondering what might be causing this?... Usually caused by the fact that your jpeg file is not a original one. You need a raw file or a jpeg direct out of the camera. Feel free to send me your file to lctphot at aol dot com an i'll see what i can do.
