By sure the "button rewind" is the less common of the "standard" M2... M2-M and M2-R are anyway much rarer.

 

Yes, Luigi, the M2-R is quite rare. I remember I had to wait long to find one for my Fontenelle Collection : serial nº 1249689. Here are the images I found in my archives.

The last picture cannot be of the same M2-R, since the M2-R (equipped with the M4 loading) was sadly not compatible with the Leicavit MP. Still beautiful cameras, however!

I'm even not so sure that the last item bears the "M2 - R" engraving... indeed is another item (see also the retaining plate of the selftimer... holes are in different position)

Quite huge indeed, Luigi. And as I get very old indeed, I am thinking about the possibility of giving it out to a real connoisseur. Would you be interested?

I always find it interesting that the M2-R cameras, have higher serial numbers than my very early M4, 1175047. Did they sit around for some time, while Leica was negotiating the cancellation terms  of the order, with the US army, before rebranding and selling them as M2-R cameras. How did their price compare with the concurrent M4?
