Advertisement Posted June 24, 2006 Posted June 24, 2006 Hi ryokan, Take a look here child labor. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
mhanke Posted June 24, 2006 Share #2 Posted June 24, 2006 While I like the pics themselves, I fail to see the connection with the title. Apparently, these are children forced to work, but since in the pics, they do not work, you need to state this in the title, which IMHO is not what makes a picture a good picture. Regards, Marcus P.S.: And, please forgive my frankness, but your bold, red signature in the picture, telling us your homepage, camera dn lens used, is shouting too loudly and distracts from the pictures. ryokan Posted June 24, 2006 Author Share #3 Posted June 24, 2006 Marcus, thank you for your comment which is absolutely correct. These images, alone, do not show much of the story as these are just a few sample images from my photo essay. The purpose to post these images, however, was to show how M6 and 35mm, which happen to be my favorite equipment, work so well in such difficult situations, i.e. low light and street shoot. I thought this forum is used to find out how people use Leica equipment and lean more about equipment and, not so much to see how good or bad photographs are as it is not the equipment that makes good photographs or bad. Please excuse my distracting red texts which serve as a water mark. ys
christoph_d Posted June 24, 2006 Share #4 Posted June 24, 2006 Hi Yoshi (is this the correct way to address you, or should I say Shimizu?), I like your photographs. Personally I think that particularly the second one shows how well the M + 35mm work together in street situations, close to the subject, personal. However, in addition you captured a nice moment with the thoughtful expression on the left boy, and you also did a nice job on the technical side, level of contrast etc. Personally, I use the forum as a mirror, and hope for constructive critique with respect to the pictures I show: comments on composition, position, illumination but also technical issues. That the pictures show here are made with Leica equipment is something I take for granted. Wishing you a nice weekend, C.
stuny Posted June 25, 2006 Share #5 Posted June 25, 2006 Yoshi - I really like these captures for their moodiness, tones and composition. However, I find the titles and bylines to be rather obtrusive (though I do like that they are in red against a B&W shot). Stuart

Guest Bernd Banken Posted June 25, 2006 Share #7 Posted June 25, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) chapeau, yoshi! It's not necessary that some work is to be seen, just look into these eyes. Did you try once a 28mm? This was my favorite length in the past for street. mick Posted June 25, 2006 Share #8 Posted June 25, 2006 Excellent photography. In particular the second one is technically and contentwise outstanding. MIck

ryokan Posted June 27, 2006 Author Share #10 Posted June 27, 2006 Bernd, thanks for your comment. I use only 35mm +M6 and 50mm+M7, both ASPH and always fixed with these combination. ys
Gerard K Posted June 27, 2006 Share #11 Posted June 27, 2006 Excellent work Yoshi, perhaps just make the watermark a little more discreet- it will add to the mystery and intrigue. Gerard.

mgcd Posted June 29, 2006 Share #13 Posted June 29, 2006 I certainly like the images, I took it that they are part of a larger body of work dealing with child labour per se. Beautiful mastery of light is evident, and the framing of the images is also judicious. With respect to the typography and additional graphic elements, I find that they indeed complement the images rather well, this is a talent I would love to have. You certainly have a blueprint from which to make promotional material.
