One of the best pics of the normal route to Mt.Blanc (I was there in 1984...) : the majesty of that glorious scenery is perfectly rendered... and looks what it indeed is... a not difficult route to follow... NOW : but Balmat and Paccard were there in 1786...

I think this belongs here (it has peen posted before)...a mountain erupting out of the sea.
At 550 metres Ball's Pyramid off the East coast of Australia is the tallest volcanic stack on earth.

-31.754167, 159.251667 (google Earth: need to zoom right in to see it on satellite as it's in the middle of the ocean)
20km SE of Lord Howe Island

I was fascinated when read tha on Ball's Pyramid they discovered a supposed-extincted stick insect.

Yes, the Phasmid Dryococelus australis. Thought to be extinct after previous discovery on Lord Howe Island, but recently found on Ball's Pyramid.

The Jemez Mountains above Bandelier National Monument in Northern New Mexico.
Chicoma Peak to the far right has an elevation of 11,561 ft (3,524 m).
The building to the left is a fire lookout tower that now serves as a residence.

The Sangre de Cristo Mountains in Northern New Mexico from Truchas Peak with an elevation of 13,102 ft (3,993 m) to the left
to the Santa Fe Ski Area with an elevation of 12,075 feet (3,680 m) to the right as seen from Bandelier National Monument.

The mountain massive in the interior of the Sinai Penisula, Egypt.
Seen a couple of minutes before sunrise, on the top of Mount Moses, a.k.a. Djebel Musa.
