I loved my D2.
Even now i would trust its lens if i was doing a book.
But it went to a good home.

X10 official announcement tomorrow with official $600 (£479).
Looks & handling & specs like my D2.
Ive always liked lens Fujinon EBC.

Fujifilm X10 | features - Design & Style | Fujifilm Canada

Promo vid

I so wish Leica had updated the D2.

Standout features for me of X10:
Customised Bayer sensor design: DR & High Iso low noise
(9min35 Fuji Guys - Fujifilm X10 Part 1 - First Look - YouTube)
28mm f2 - 112mm f2.8
7 metal aperture blades : proper blades
(not electronic as on all others even digilux 2 aperture was electronic)
big WO for me & cause i reckon nice bokeh
Image stabilised
Manual zoom
Manual aperture & focus dial
One touch AF: in MF mode
49 AF selectable points (dedicated AF selector button)
Optical viewfinder 2 aspherical glass elements & 2 glass prisms: zooms in & out with the zoom lens.
1cm macro
7fps at 12mp & 10fps at 6mp
Manual dial: aperture, shutter, exp comp
Dedicated buttons: Metering, WB, Fn customisable which can be set to ISO.
Selectable noise reduction
Bracketing: Auto EXP, DR, ISO
B&W filters: green, yellow, red
WB with Kelvin scale & grey card adjustment
HD vid: im more interested in stills, cool its got it
TTL flash
Cable release thread on shutter
Metal: magnesium body chassis & top & base plates, dials, zoom ring, lens front ring, lens cap.
Size: 117x70x57. One of the reasons my D2 went to a good home was its size. D2 was near enough dslr + prime.

Leica, you have the lens and the body, here (Fuji) there is the sensor, please update the viewfinder and the electronic engine and give us the update of the Digilux 2 (finally...).

Looks to be a spectacular camera. I own an old F200 EXR with a 1.6" CCD 12mp sensor. In outdoor light it truly does render in a class above small sensor compacts, distinctly sharper and with greater dynamic range than a S95 dispite being 2 years old even in normal 12mp mode. Though; outside of outdoor prints it did not rival M43, let alone APS-C by a long shot.

With a bigger 2/3" sensor and a fast f2 lens and a backlit CMOS, this new fujifilm could very well shame the stodgy old 12mp M43 still being put into the PEN. Considering how tiny they are making this thing out to be the X10 could be a revolution in pocket quality even in the world of M43 and NEXs.
If it's electronic, technical and delicate; I've dealt with it.

I used to take my D2 & leave my dslrs.
X10 has the aesthetics.
If its lens delivers then wo!

I like taking pictures of Dogs because they don't object to being photographed - and they don't ask for prints.

You may! But what this really is but another example of Leica loyalists (digilux 2 owners who were abandoned by Solms) speaking out one more time looking for a red dot path.
The X10 looks like a market oriented solution to the small format, reasonable zoom,
good image quality (yet to be proven) portable camera that Leica should offer. Putting
a zoom lens on the x1 isn't going to do it at the price point - or as grandma used to say
"putting feathers on a turkey still don't make it fly like an eagle".

Dear friend.
Out of the thousands of Leica threads, tens of thousands of leica posts, you mention this

The front of the X10 is bare. Just enough space for a nice red dot!

Interesting that a number of Digilux 2 users see the X10 as what an updated Digilux 2 could be. Certainly, it follows similar principles of design and function.

The X10 intrigues me, and fully agree that this is a camera that Leica could have made.

Grab a X100 and X10.

Stick a Red Leica logo.

Insta Leica at 1/10th the price and without the headaches.

It's about a company which, with the launch of its "x-line", has stirred up quite agitated debates among Leica enthusiats, much more so than any other competitor. I think there should be some tolerance and space in this forum to discuss cameras which seem to target Leica users/fans.

A Leica Forum is the ideal place where to post messages about product types we would like see Leica doing.
I think that almost every Leica Forum member that express interest in this Fuji, is a potential customer for the log awaited Digilux 2 update. So lets Leica know that there is still interest in a model like that.

The Fuji X10 will not be the update to my Digilux 2, but I really would like a Digilux 2.2 with the EVF of Sony Nex-7 and the sensor from this Fuji, leaving the body of the camera as much as possibile untouched (the same for that wonderful lens the Summilux is).

There is enough tolerance, witness the monster X100 thread. Most Leica owners are interested in all cameras on the market. Yet turning this forum into a general photography one is not the intention.

Please.
I meant this as a long awaited wish for D2 update which never happened ... Fuji made it happen.
I wish it was Leica.
Yet i am happy to use any camera which connects with me.

and for the also abandoned digilux 1 - a re-badged fuji as I seem to remember. Obviously
the camera company has the skills to build a camera with the quality to be a "Leica". It
seems only to be missing the "red dot".

The Digilux 1 was built by Panasonic not Fuji. They continue to make Leica's small cameras.

I'm sorry - you're absolutely right about the digilux 1. I should have been more specific,
there were three fugi digiluxes - the "original"digilux - the fuji mx700 at 1.3 megapixels
was announced in September 1998. In February 2000 the second "digilux zoom - the fuji mx1700 at 1.3 megapixels with a 38-114mm (equivalent) zoom and the final effort in September 2000 - the digilux 4.3, jumping the resolution to 2.4 megapixels with a new 36-108 zoom lens. This last offering was sold as the fuji 4700z. Leica then jumped to the "digilux 1" from panasonic in february the following year and a new partnership was
formed.

What are the 2 main settings for making a photo?

> Light

> Distance

How do you control them

> Light

  - Aperture

  - Shutter Speed

> Distance

  - Focus

Why we love the Digilux 2 (amongst others)?

> Light

  - Aperture -> Manual control: Ring on the lens

  - Shutter speed -> Manual control: Dial on the top

> Distance

  - Focus -> Manual control: Ring on the lens

Where do you find those main(!) controls on the X10?

...

Thank you LEICA for not having build the X10!

Christoph
