The village behind it would then be Schwangau, the lake in the background might be Lake Forggen, the castle behind you might be Neuschwanstein Castle, and the castle to your left Hohenschwangau Castle - all near Fuessen, Germany. It just seems to resemble that area... Probably I'm completely wrong, though. Just a thought: I don't think your photo was too difficult to eventually locate. It is just that some spots take longer than others to figure out. Even though Lake Placid would not have been my next guess. There aren't that many places in the World that look like that. So it might have been interesting to continue. Nice picture, by the way.
