I also thought about this a while back (the ones from match technical are a little cheap/ugly to my mind). If enough people are interested in one, I'll make some out of aluminum (probably anodized, the one above is painted). Please let me know!

A black anodized one would be nice. I like how you covered the screw. Two questions: 1. Being made of metal, is there any danger of completing a circuit between the contacts and damaging something? 2. Is it easily removed?

I wonder why the M9 has that little black piece in the hot shoe that protrudes beyond the rear of the camera. What purpose does it serve?

Paul, could you match the luster and color of the hot shoe? That might be nicer than black. I like how the hot shoe cover that comes with the M9 Titanium blends in.

I use the hotshoe for inserting a reminder of what film I have loaded. I am not a frequent photographer so I keep forgetting what emulsion I'm shooting... But it is an interesting gadget.

Last week I cut one from a Fuji film canister. My digital cameras' shoe contacts get filthy too rapidly. I use a IIIc and an M6 and therefore can lay my hands on the raw material.

Which is? I've been handling cameras for over 30 years and have never before missed this accessory (and yet here I am reading--and posting to--this thread, so I guess I'm interested).

I use one because it stops the hotshoe catching on the lining of my jacket pocket.
