Flash Hot Shoe Cover

Thanks, but unfortunately the one that came with my D700 does not quite fit the M9.

If I was better with tools, I might be able to drill out a space in the Nikon flash shoe cover for the post in the M9 shoe.

Surprisingly enough, the flash hot shoe cover for the Olympus OM2 fit perfectly, but unfortunately, I lost it.

A Thumbs Up works well :)

So does a piece of gaffer´s tape....

Seriously, why do you want one? There´s no voltage across the terminals, so you´re in no danger of electrocution, and even accidentally shortening the contacts won´t harm the camera.

I use one on my M7 and my II. If you keep your camera in a tight fitting pouch or a pocket it stops the hotshoe catching as you pull it out. I lost a jacket lining in exactly this way a few years ago.

I used one of the Nikon covers on my M8. You have to cut a little notch for the pin in order for it to fully slide home, but that can easily be done with a scalpel or a nail file. (It took me under 5 minutes to do mine.) I've fitted those Nikon covers to every camera I have that doesn't already have one. :)

Nicole,

I can take out your appendix with a scalpel in no time at all, but using it on the plastic flash cover would probably leave me minus a finger or two.

Oh, you can too! Slide on the cover, make a mark on the cover where the pin is, and using

a small round file which can be had on the web for small change, file a slot about 3/32"

deep. ( test fit it until it slides "home") The pin is 2mm in diameter (.078") so a 1/8"

tapered round file would be fine. You can use the small end of the taper and increase

width as needed. ( and you need not run the file through the autoclave first )

Your tailor should have anticipated that. It never hurts to mention which pocket you keep your Leica in when being measured.

Indeed, and to be fair he does always measure my mobile telephone.

My Man usually carries my equipment, ready for immediate use but I had given him his annual half-day holiday on that occasion.

-I had mine removed at the BMW body shop....the last time I'll ruin a $20.00 rain slicker.

Aluminium Leica M9 Hot Shoe Cover by insomnia09, on Flickr

I also thought about this a while back (the ones from match technical are a little cheap/ugly to my mind). If enough people are interested in one, I'll make some out of aluminum (probably anodized, the one above is painted). Please let me know!
