proenca Posted November 8, 2010 Share #1 Posted November 8, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi there, I would like to get a black or grey Leica dot ? Any chance who has one for sale ? Yes, it does improve the high iso noise and provides extra 10mp of quality of the image, not forgetting that all the M lens start having AF. So , where to get one ? Apart from DAG which is out of stock for months ?

daniel buck Posted November 8, 2010 Share #6 Posted November 8, 2010 (edited) I'm thinking about painting mine (or replacing it with a black one, if I can find one for cheap) and also thinking about taking a thin permanent marker and going over the M9 text as well. I think I'll wait a month or two though, just incase for some reason I decide that the M is not really what I was looking for in a digital camera, if I wanted to sell it I imagine a camera that's un-molested would get more $ back. But as soon as I'm sure I want to keep it, I've got no problem molesting The jury is still out though, I've got to get comfortable with the camera, right now it still feels like a foreign piece of machinery in my hands. I like things de-badged, I just took off all the badges on my jeep a few weeks ago Edited November 8, 2010 by daniel buck
mustafasoleiman Posted November 8, 2010 Share #7 Posted November 8, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Well I got ready with paint and toothpick to apply paint on red logo, then I got cold feet thinking that it is going to look a bit messy... Did anybody try paint it with black paint? I got a small bottle of CRAFTER ACRYLIC...
tdtaylor Posted November 8, 2010 Share #8 Posted November 8, 2010 Just a warning. Just for the heck of it, I had changed my red dot to black (from DAG), and later sent it into Leica for a focus adjustment- yes, you can see this one coming- it came back red. And it has been so since.
dwbell Posted November 8, 2010 Share #9 Posted November 8, 2010 Out of interest I was quite surprised when I received my grey M9 with how pastel, pink-like the "red dot" was. Is that only my model or do others see that? If you look at the banner add in the top right of this forum page and compare the Leica dot of the Robert White advert with the Red dot of the "Red Dot Cameras" on the main M9 forum page advert that represents the actual (robert white - pink dot) to what I expected. It's very different in red to the dot on my 35 cron ASPH. I don't particularly care but if I had to choose I'd say I prefer it, stark red on the grey would be too much contrast and Rudolf like. fotografr Posted November 8, 2010 Share #10 Posted November 8, 2010 (edited) Out of interest I was quite surprised when I received my grey M9 with how pastel, pink-like the "red dot" was. Maybe they're supporting breast cancer research. I got a black dot from DAG for my M8. Much prefer it to the red. Hard to imagine why it would take months for him to get more. menos I M6 Posted November 9, 2010 Share #11 Posted November 9, 2010 I liked the look of the black do on my M8.2 better than the red ones on the M6/7, so I bought two dots from DAG and fixed my M6 and M7. If his site does indicate "out of stock", send him a mail, he is very responsive and might contact you, as soon, as he has some again.

awesom3 Posted November 9, 2010 Share #13 Posted November 9, 2010 the red dot on the titanium m9 looks really nice - saw it in person at PDN last weekend - bright red and lacquered with a smooth rounded finish, wish i could get one like that
Wolfgang Esslinger Posted November 9, 2010 Share #14 Posted November 9, 2010 Just a warning. Just for the heck of it, I had changed my red dot to black (from DAG), and later sent it into Leica for a focus adjustment- yes, you can see this one coming- it came back red. And it has been so since. I sent my black M7 with red dot in due to some electronics problems. It came back - with a grey dot! Anything can happen... Shac Posted November 11, 2010 Share #16 Posted November 11, 2010 I second Jaapv's advice. A few years back I gently prised off the red dot from my black M6. Painted the whole disk (logo side:D) with black paint and then before the paint fully dried, carefully wiped it off from the letters (they are raised as you know) - looks fine to me
puzan Posted July 28, 2011 Share #17 Posted July 28, 2011 How did you get the Leica logo out of the body, without damaging it?
chris_tribble Posted July 28, 2011 Share #18 Posted July 28, 2011 My question too - I'm sure it's been mentioned before. Wooden toothpicks come to mind...
earleygallery Posted July 28, 2011 Share #19 Posted July 28, 2011 Guys, use the search function and all your questions will be answered, with photos and diagrams and intricate instructions. But I think you're all just plain dotty.
jaapv Posted July 28, 2011 Share #20 Posted July 28, 2011 (edited) My question too - I'm sure it's been mentioned before. Wooden toothpicks come to mind... It has not been posted over a dozen times.. Work in a decently warm place, twist with your thumb, wiggle with two toothpicks against the L and the A. It will slide off, adhesive intact, in a few minutes. Experienced logoists will use the thumb twist alone. Edited July 28, 2011 by jaapv
