Leica X1 Photos

Trying to get my 4 dogs in focus with the X1 is a joke... from time to time I can get one.

Rivi, trying to get four dogs in focus with any camera would be a very big challenge; unless they were highly disciplined and responded to being lined up for a show. Even with more modern autofocus technology it would remain a serious challenge. Most viewers would be more than pleased to get one dog sharp, with an endearing expression with the others less so in the background. I feel you are expecting too much from an older camera. However, with patience, it is surprising what you can do.

Here is a link to one of mine taken with the X1 of two pets interacting with each other for a brief second or two.  http://www.davidaskham.com/pets-leica-x1

David,

That's a great shot of your dog and cat! and you are so right: "the best animal pictures are the natural ones where you sometimes have to accept small compromises" I think that phrase applies to everything regardless of pets or people; the best pictures are the natural ones. That is why I am such a fan of Joel Meyerowitz work, he manage to capture unique moments that cannot be replicate.

Still digging this camera, though it gets some competition from several others I use (namely the Sigma Merrill DP2, which is the best digital camera I've ever used from a file standpoint, but not function so much). These from a recent trip to Chicago (November). Just now getting around to posting a few here.

Some from a series I shot in California while out there for work. The 1st day there was St. Patricks day - everybody heading to the bars. I think these photos capture the Cali beach life. I can't describe it, but the quality of light there was quite illuminating. Beach life... I want in!

Excellent series! Love the composition and the toning too.
