J_Thompson Posted May 12, 2010 Share #41 Posted May 12, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) If it's not European, then is it a Packard? I don't think it could be a Duesenberg as those were the performance cars of their day and unlikely to be bodied in such a style, although I guess a coachbuilder would do anything if he were paid enough. Advertisement Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 Hi J_Thompson, Take a look here Name this car..... I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Guest suilvenman Posted May 12, 2010 Share #42 Posted May 12, 2010 Neither Packard nor Duesenberg, John, but you're getting closer. Cheers, Ken.
elansprint72 Posted May 13, 2010 Author Share #43 Posted May 13, 2010 Auburn?
Guest suilvenman Posted May 13, 2010 Share #44 Posted May 13, 2010 Auburn? I see that you must have been looking at that rather becoming portrait of an Auburn about six down on the SLT thread, Pete. Sorry, not that. Clues: the company went belly-up in the fifties by which time it was building mainly lorries; its name was partly used by a "rock" group in the 70's. Cheers, Ken. J_Thompson Posted May 13, 2010 Share #45 Posted May 13, 2010 Ken, given your hints, that would have to be REO, although I was strongly leaning towards Pierce-Arrow.

Sorry, not that. Cheers, Ken. Actually I've not seen that but when I was getting the Mini through the MoT test the other week a Speedster pulled in. Not something you see every day in the UK! No camera with me, of course. I think our friend has got the answer.
Guest suilvenman Posted May 13, 2010 Share #47 Posted May 13, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) John, you were correct, it's a 1928 REO Wolverine. Before I hand over to you, here's a shot of its front-end. Cheers, Ken. Welcome, dear visitor! J_Thompson Posted May 13, 2010 Share #48 Posted May 13, 2010 I've got to say, Ken, that without your two hints, I would never guessed it in a thousand years. And judging by the styling of that particular model, especially the front end, I can understand why they also made trucks / lorries. Here's my brain-teaser - something with a bit more styling. Good luck, gentlemen. Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! elansprint72 Posted May 13, 2010 Author Share #49 Posted May 13, 2010 Looks bleedin' awful to me; who lets the Yanks into this thread? Heck- Chrysler Le Baron Grande-Large thing?
J_Thompson Posted May 13, 2010 Share #50 Posted May 13, 2010 It's not a Chrysler, Pete. And not large, either.
elansprint72 Posted May 14, 2010 Author Share #51 Posted May 14, 2010 I'm guessing that the shape of the "rocket pod" would be very difficult to form from metal, so is it glass-fibre? The only glass car that I know from the US is the Corvette series, is it a special version of the Sting-Ray?
J_Thompson Posted May 14, 2010 Share #52 Posted May 14, 2010 No, Pete, it's not American. This particular model was produced, in limited numbers (about 16), by a famous European coachbuilder in the mid fifties. Not fiberglass but most probably steel. Think along the lines of the futuristic Alfa Romeo B.A.T. series but all built in the same body style. They may have been raced, but I'm not sure of that, either. kkochheiser Posted May 14, 2010 Share #53 Posted May 14, 2010 Fiat 8V? Kent
J_Thompson Posted May 14, 2010 Share #54 Posted May 14, 2010 Correct, Kent! It's a 1953 Fiat 8V Supersonic by Ghia. The owner of this example also has an pretty extensive collection of Zagato bodied cars. Looks like you're next to post a photo. Welcome, dear visitor! elansprint72 Posted May 14, 2010 Author Share #55 Posted May 14, 2010 Of course! Never seen one from the back before. Did you know....... one of these bodies finished up on a Cobra? Other Coupes Scroll down a bit. Seems I'm not the only one who does not like the back end.
kkochheiser Posted May 14, 2010 Share #56 Posted May 14, 2010 That was a great photo, it took me a while to get it. It may also take me a while to pick out a suitable picture to post, plus it probably won't be from a Leica since I just got mine and all my old stuff is from various Nikons (sorry!). We'll see what I can do. Kent

Guest suilvenman Posted May 15, 2010 Share #58 Posted May 15, 2010 That's a very clever (and naughty) one. Castagna Milano will reproduce anything for anyone at any time, presumably as long as you have enough euros to service the Greek debt. The running-board tool box and photo suggest that this is probably a long wheel-based coupé? Cheers, Ken.
kkochheiser Posted May 15, 2010 Share #59 Posted May 15, 2010 Sound logic and a good guess but not in this case. The manufacturer is the same nationality as the coachbuilder. Kent
elansprint72 Posted May 15, 2010 Author Share #60 Posted May 15, 2010 Bugatti Veyron, special body, and that's a cigar humidor!!!! No idea. Unless it's a Lancia.
