cjk Posted July 8, 2006 Share #1 Posted July 8, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) An up-scale development of 200 homes in the Chalmette section of New Orleans was destroyed when the flood surge from Lake Borgne topped a 30 foot high levee (visible brown barrier in distance) on Aug. 29, 2005, and left in its wake images like this. Many homes were simply swept away in the flood waters while those left standing were damaged beyond repair. Several residents drowned in their beds; the front of their wrecked home painted with the grim "black circle" around a number indicating how many died. In all, 200,000 homes were destroyed in rich, poor and in-between neighborhoods; 800,000 people were displaced and 18,000 businesses were destroyed along with their supporting infra-structure of roads, streets, sewers, schools, churches, food markets, petrol stations, hospitals, health care clinics and more. jmr Posted July 8, 2006 Share #2 Posted July 8, 2006 Charles, interesting record of a terrible event. On my screen the colours look rather surreal and somewhat blocky. Perhaps it's a compression problem, or an issue with the scan.
