[edit] LEITZ / LEICA CODE NAMES & SERIAL NUMBERS

Leitz introduced code names for their products ca. 1928, so that orders by dealers could be placed via telegraph without confusion. Since ca. 1959, Leica has used numeric values in lieu of code names.
