Today on August 6th a new firmware version for the LEICA M9 was released and is available for download here.

According to Leica theses are the improvements of the version 1.138 firmware:

1. Camera Performance

_ Improved compatibility of SDHC cards. Nevertheless, we recommend our customers cards such as the “Extreme III” from the leading brand “SanDisk”.

_ Improved Auto White Balance in conditions with power saving lamps and tungsten light.

2. Bug Fixes

_ Saving user profiles has been improved (changing from one profile to another did sometimes cause problems)

_ Time display in “American” format corrected.

_ Auto power off bug fixed (camera did turn off automatically while using the Play Mode or scrolling through the menu).

When I download firmware updates for my old M8, there is no problem using my Mac and the updates load up in the camera as expected. With the M9 however, even though I go through exactly the same procedure, it doesn’t work – I have to use a PC to download it. Has any else noticed this – and if so have they got any idea why this happens?

I have just upgraded my M9 successful, using the pdf guidelines provided. I use a Macbook Pro with bulk standard card reader (Digital Concepts 9in1).

I just got my M9 and I have a few ‘dumb’ questions regarding the firmware upgrade. After I upzip the file on my PC, copy it onto a newly reformatted SD card and insert it into the camera, I get the expected question: “do you want to update the firmware”. I move the cursor to “YES” then hit “SET”. The screen then goes blank and even after waiting 5 minutes nothing happens. What am I doing wrong?

Can I get your thoughts on the following problem… I just got back from Europe with my M9 & about 2000 problem free images on three 8gb Fidelity 100x cards.
I down loaded the new firmware Thursday, went backpacking for 3 days.
One of my cards just locked up my camera after about 250 images.
When I returned and down loaded them, about 60 images would not open. Photo recovery recovered some, but the rest CS5 bridge will not recognize…
    Thanks Julian

I downloaded firmware and it seemed to have worked out fine. Now I discover that I have lost the ability to alter the following functions in menu: sharpening, color saturation, contrast, and color management. What do I do about this. Those functions are frozen and will not respond to the set button being pushed, the area are just black when you turn the dial to them? Can I get back to the old firmware? What do I do? Chip Kahn

I just received my Leica M9, and the functions in Menu: sharpening, color saturation, contrast and color management are frozen, doesn’t respond to any button being pushed. As a Professional photographer and spending such a value in a camera, I’d like to have the possibility to choose at least the color space to work, like Adobe RGB. Is is right?
