Always wanted to see what one of these looked like.

The Allison V-1710 aircraft engine was the only indigenous US-developed V-12 liquid-cooled engine to see service during World War. Versions with a turbosupercharger gave excellent performance at high altitude in the twin-engined Lockheed P-38 Lightning, and turbosuperchargers were fitted to experimental single-engined fighters with similar results.

The Allison really was a great engine and never got it's proper due until the added a turbos-supercharger.

Hank,

A fine picture and great narrative. General Electric Company built superchargers in Fort Wayne Indiana during WWII. I worked in the same building that they were built for over twenty five years designing fractional H.P. electric motors which GE converted the plant to.
