Alexander - i am astonished and confused as to why this shot hasnt received more commentary. This is so cool! This pile of whatever that is in the middle of the floor - which suggests that the facility - which when in full operation is thought of as somewhat of a clean and environment - is temporarily in an inoperable state of filth, juxtaposes wonderfully with the man in the background actually "cleaning" his clothes.

Fantastic shot and a keeper for sure. It is perfectly exposed and very effectively processed. Congrats.

What gear was used, if i may ask?

Dear Paul, Ece, Adam and Stuny,

Thank you all for your kind comments and the enriching perspectives. I find this quarter between Gare de Nord and Grands Boulevards to be both a river of hidden gems and a continuous improvised performance. Of course it's the full and not only pleasant gamut of people's real life doing this. When I passed close to the laundromat on my way to work, a worker hauled a wheelbarrow of gravel and sand past the doorstep. I passed at first but in the end turned back because I was a bit surprised that they'd kept the shop open: left from the door, another worker was digging a knee deep trench where the tile floor had been and, well, the rest is in the pic. The customer didn't seem to care. (Plenty of analogies for this kind of elephant in the laundry come to mind.) I'm glad if you like the tones, too.

Adam, many thanks for your spot-on comment on the content. No secret re/gear ;); I took the pic with my D-Lux 5. It plays really well together with Raw Photo Processor for me. The files straight from the camera often don't look very good, let's say (LR for instance applies corrections before showing the raws to anyone :D), but have a nice potential when below 200 iso. This was at 80 iso. I exported a quite flat tiff in lab to Photoshop and did the rest there. Here I also corrected the barrel distortion (natively, the zoom has a lot at 35m equiv.), because the banana columns ruined the image. The lens was fully open at ƒ2.3, speed 1/80. The depth of field is the gift of the tiny sensor.

Cheers,

Alexander
