Mixalis Posted September 28, 2014 Share #1 Posted September 28, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) After a colourful summer with many different cameras, including the new T, I took out my neglected Monochrom for the weekend and reminded myself just why it is my all-time favourite camera. It needs a bit of care, especially in avoiding blown highlights, but the camera is ultimately immensely rewarding. This weekend I was out and about, first in Mayfair near Leica's London HQ, then at a Thai Festival at the White City Mall, finally at a showing of silent films accompanied by Donald MacKenzie at the Mighty Wurlitzer in the theatre of the Musical Museum, Brentford. The Monochrom loves higher ISO and manages to produce a delicious film-like grain. A happy weekend for the faithful Monochrom (and 50mm Summilux ASPH). pauledell Posted September 29, 2014 Share #2 Posted September 29, 2014 Mike, A fine series.with the diversity of subjects and conditions. My favorite is the first one of the man at the Wurlitzer with its outstanding rich tones and sharpness. Also, I like the one with the Thai martial arts display for the breathtaking action displayed perfectly photographically. Paul

George James Posted September 30, 2014 Share #4 Posted September 30, 2014 Michael, Excellent series of images, especially #1, well done. I agree on the Monochrom, wonderful camera.
Mixalis Posted September 30, 2014 Author Share #5 Posted September 30, 2014 Michael, Excellent series of images, especially #1, well done. I agree on the Monochrom, wonderful camera. Thank you, George. One of the abiding impressions of the MM is the atrocious screen. Invariably, when tempted to chimp, there is a desire to slit one's throat. All that money and the result is so poor. So it was with the organ shot. Yet power up Lightroom and all is forgiven.
MarkP Posted September 30, 2014 Share #6 Posted September 30, 2014 I think the screen is fine for my purposes: camera settings and most importantly the histogram. I think that the high contrast screen in B&W is OK for the occasional quick chimp.

I think that the high contrast screen in B&W is OK for the occasional quick chimp. I suppose when we get the monochrom M60 we won't be tempted to look at the screen. In general, I agree with you, however. The screen is adequate for menus and histogram but pretty awful otherwise. The next Monochrom will be based on the M240 and will therefore have a modern screen.
