Berth Posted April 11, 2014 Share #2 Posted April 11, 2014 (edited) Thank you again for the inspiration. All of them are terrific, but I think I like the stylish couple crossing the street the best. Edited April 11, 2014 by Berth

volk65 Posted April 12, 2014 Author Share #8 Posted April 12, 2014 All beautiful. Thank you. What kind of B&W processing have you applied to these wonderful photos (if you do not mind me asking)? I use Silver Efex Pro 2. I consider it a Leica standard as it is Leica's "kit" B&W processing software. Some forum users find my B&W processing lacking but it's not Efex Pro to blame; it's just that some of my photos could have been exposed better

albert Posted April 13, 2014 Share #14 Posted April 13, 2014 Outstanding. If you had been holding my X1 instead of your X2 would the finished products be of this quality?
volk65 Posted April 13, 2014 Author Share #15 Posted April 13, 2014 (edited) Outstanding. If you had been holding my X1 instead of your X2 would the finished products be of this quality? Hi Albert, X2's advantages over X1 can be summarized as bigger sensor, better auto focus and electronic viewfinder. Bigger sensor: X1's 12MP is sufficient except if you want to have very large prints. However, the main advantage of a bigger sensor is cropping flexibility. For instance, I took photo no. 5 from-the-hip, without looking through the viewfinder and I had to crop it (to about 12MP). If your framing and composition is good, no problem there. Improved auto-focus: For a street photographer, faster AF may mean more hits and fewer misses. On the other hand, look at all Leica M users who capture masterful shots with manual focus. (BTW, in my opinion, both X1's and X2's manual focus mode is useless.) And although improved compared to X1, X2's AF still has a 1 sec or so lag. So, to answer your question in this respect, better AF doesn't have an impact on image quality but you may have a slightly better hit ratio. EVF: For me, the electronic VF (optional) is the reason for buying X2. It is an articulated, 90 degree tiltable VF and allows me to take pictures without directly facing my subjects; it helps me to be invisible to people I photograph. Unfortunately I'm a shy, not very sociable person, and I feel very awkward when I try to communicate and interact with them. I would have preferred that communicative way (some of the great photographers are very good at it), instead of sneaking up on people, but it doesn't work for me. So it depends on your approach and character whether EVF would make a difference. Apart from these points, people say that X1's color rendering at lower ISOs is closer to Leica M series than X2's. So it's a plus for X1 if you prefer color pics. All in all, the answer is yes, but for me, with less hit ratio. For somebody else, it may simply be "yes, of course". newnew Posted April 17, 2014 Share #19 Posted April 17, 2014 Volkan, All are very nice but the first one is a great shot and could only be taken in Paris, nowhere else.
Iduna Posted April 17, 2014 Share #20 Posted April 17, 2014 A fine series, interesting and executed very well. This is a further proof of what a skilled photographer can churn out of the X-cameras.
