First 'official' day out shooting..I know it's a lot of images but I'm excited to share the results using this incredible camera.

 

It's been months since I've used anything other than the X2 and I'm already addicted to my 28mm 2.0...I think I will sell the Summilux at some point as I much prefer 28mm and rarely shoot wide open...

 

Great day out and looking forward to more..

An excellent variety of pictures, each one different. Vibrant and full of life with great composition, superb tones and sharp clarity. The 28mm certainly fits your shooting style very well. I'm looking forward to see more of your work and congratulations on the new MM camera.

Thanks for looking and the comments Paul. I missed my M9 more than I thought. I am a die hard fan of the X2..in many ways it's my favorite camera..but the Monochrome is just incredible..

 

I took some images in bright sun with a man sitting in the shadow..really impossible to expose correctly..Just to learn, I exposed for the bright and am amazed at the shadow detail I am able to recover..Almost feels like cheating! (don't tell anyone please! ;)

I quite like your pictures, but I am very impressed with the technical quality. They appear to be perfectly exposed with pretty much spot-on contrast. This kind of quality is certainly possible with film - but not guaranteed unless you know your stuff very well.

 

Thanks Michael.. It was part sun, part clouds and I generally usually prefer more even light and tend to not love shooting in bright sun..Needless to say settings need to constantly be changed. I'd love to take all the credit for exposing properly and I naturally seem to expose towards the bright anyway for whatever reason and that clearly works to our advantage using this camera.

 

The image of the guy with the big stomach wearing a Rangers jersey is a great example..he was quite dark in the original and I can't take credit for exposing for bright as I just was lucky to get the shot off and didn't have time to adjust (and if I did I don't think I would have done it was well as it came out)..

 

Just as we've read the Monochrome needs to be exposed more towards bright and will surprise you with what it can bring out in the shadows..

All extremely good, but 6 & 9 are exceptional.

 

THanks for that..and #6 was fun to shoot...I saw the broken bottle and set up the shot but the guy sitting in the bench seemed to either not want to be in the shot or whatever he did and got up to leave..I took two shots..One of just the broken glas and then #6 as that man entered the frame at exactly the right time..

 

#9 was taken as I was walking home and spied the guy on stilts casually walking past the Post Office. I practically ran after him (they move fast on those things!) and got to Webster Hall (concert venue) in time to get that shot.

funny re reading my initial day one posts..."Exposure for the bright" sounds like 'expose to the right', which is exactly what you don't want to do with the MM. Of course I was saying to underexpose, not to blow out the highlights which don't have nearly the latitude as shadow areas.

 

I remember reading the first rumors of an upcoming 'black and white' only camera and thinking how great that would be and how that won't ever happen. :p

very nice set. I don't mind the volume of photos at all. I actually prefer it to multiple posts, particularly when they are connected (i.e., taken in the same day or according to the same theme.

 

6 and 7 are my favorites. The 6th for the splatter and the 7th for the lady holding the big guy's thumb :)

thanks Louis..this thread is two years old and was made the first day with the camera...I haven't lost my enthusiasm for it of course.
