Ok boys (and ladies), this will be my little album with snapshots from the England trip in the oldfashioned car ... you remember?
Every album needs a cover, so I start with a little "sandwich" of my already posted AGFA Scala-slides at Mallory racing circuit (on the right Charles Morgan) I think i will post one shot per day (if i find the time for scanning), so winter can come ;-) All photos with Leica MP (Summicron 35 + 75 asph., Elmarit 24asph., Elmar 50)

Paul, you mean shot #1
#2 ... here another "drive by-shot", maybe William Lamb (who forced me to start scanning my slides and was my willing chauffeur most of the time) can add the names of the locations, thank you.

Ron,
Where is the picture of CM? The second shot might be Snowshill with the SpotMog (Gloucestershire Centre) boys, with David Gibbon and Brian Cowell leading. Now..., WHY do I need to take my sunglasses off?! (Those special ones help me read the clouds.) BTW, never saw you take this; guess I was busy...![]()

O.K., you are confusing me now. #1 with the church is probably Snowshill and #2 is definitely Lower Slaughter. Too bad it was so warm and had been so unusually dry....

Haha, John, everything in UK is 1940´s feel, especially driving with these "rides" and recording it with a Leica (though my 1938´s IIIa would fit better here than the MP)

Apparently, some towns now have electric light and water that comes out of a tap. What film stock are you using here, Ronald?

Andy,
you mentioned electric light, yes, i´ve noticed that in London. How comes? Must be a new EU regulation (will they?) ![]() When going into details, the only pictures you´ve ever seen of Solms were probably the photos of Leica factory and that is quit modern stuff. btw. YOUR "real" UK might be as uniform as every other boring place in central europe, I was on holiday and expected a little "more" or better say "less" ![]() cheers, Ron

I thought Solms and Wetzlar were all bavarian cuckoo-clock houses and cobbled streets...
Getting off topic, really, but it would be really interesting to know what someone from Germany "expects" when they visit the UK. Tweed? Football hooligans? Tartan? Whisky? Plus-fours? Every other car a BMW? Bad food? Warm beer? Bulldogs? I bet it's not the same as the Americans expect! ![]() It would be enlightening to see ourselves as others see us.

We think that all Americans think that we all live in stone cottages, drive round in 1950s Jaguars, call our friends by their surnames, have hospitals run by nurses who still wear caps, and have hotels run by Basil Fawlty types.
The BBC has a lot to answer for ![]()

Getting quit off topic here, but in a way not, Andy.
I expect perfect food (I now know the "new" english kitchen), good bear, nice people, nice landscapes and sometimes no signal on my mobile phone. Be assured, I met everything in the cotwolds, cornwall and scotland! I love the island and i hope you see that in my pictures. Ron p.s. "Kuckucksuhren" are NOT bavarian, they come from Baden Württemberg (Schwarzwald), though they sell it to americans and asians all over germany.

Well, some do and some still use Leicas - not the worst way of living - ask the hard working men who can only afford this for a week every third year
![]() (one reason to take a lot of snapshots)

Pete, i already knew. Who do you think brings the bananas and oranges to UK?
The convoys? Wrong! (They are full with american tourists since airplanes are unsafe). The german U-boats do, who else? ![]()

Expect to see Inspector Morse pop out of one of those doorways any moment now. Now I see why William scrimps and saves all year so he can do this trip. The countryside is quite amazing. Nice job, Ronald.

When we found it, the skies turned very dark and there were a few drops of rain. Looked like a real downpour was coming. The place wasn't to open until 6 PM and it was 5:50 PM. Saw the landlord and asked him to open the gate so that we could put the hood up. No go... Ron and I thought about just leaving the car in the drive. Never did rain and the pub was decorated with old hunt and car racing pictures, many signed, a few good ales and decent food. We ate in the garden under one of those umbrellas and the local hunt people rode in later on horseback. Decent place if anyone finds themselves in the area. Off to Work!!! ![]()
