My brother and I went, 7 hours early, to Yankee Stadium last Sunday to watch the final game that wuold ever be played there. The
Stadium, an 85 year old structure, is being replaced by a new modern stadium across the street and will be razed sometime next year. We wanted to capture some of our memories: seats we watched certain games from, how our views changed as our income did, the architecture of this cathedral of baseball. Anyway I took my M8 and 35 IV along for the ride. Cheers, J ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

J, a tragic day for me. My wife & I bought season tickets starting in 1977. In pic #2, you have a view from the upper deck. Our seats were in the Upper deck, first row, directly behind the plate. Our ritual was to bring a portable TV, which lay on the ground, so we could see the playbacks. We used to be able bring our own dinner back then, so we usually were there when the gates opened. No one but the ball players in front of us! What great years & World Series appearances & of course, CHAMPIONSHIPS. Reggie, Mooky, Sweet Lou, Chamblis, Gator, Goose....I'm gonna cry.
Anyway the dream ended around 1982 when a drunk fan took out a gun three rows behind us. He got in an argument with a Boston fan during one of the NY/Boston games. My wife just wouldn't return. Almost as sad as the night game when I brought my oldest to stand & remember Our Captain, Thurman Munson on the day he passed. Glory Days, they were! |
