Default For Pete – Le Mans Start, NYC Style

Moments before the drivers ran to their cars, quickly going into Dunlap Corner, which is a tire repair shop on 9th Avenue.

Since 9/11 NYPD is constantly conducting drills, and sights like this are very common throughout the city.

Are they allowed to park on the footpath (sidewalk) like that?

Martin - Thank you.

Pete - They seem to do it just during drills when huge numbers of their vehicles converge. Seeing 40 to 50 of them at a time is not unusual.

I've heard its drills as well as preventive (against you know what). Having a convoy of vehicles with sirens going to potential targets is meant as a deterent... or just a big light show and a great ooh and ah moment for tourists.

Carl -

Watch as you walk around town. Tourists are constantly taking photos of police and fire fighters, without and with (mostly) family members in the shot. I suspect that is the much bigger tourist draw.

If NYPD and FDNY charges per shot, then hopefully their revenue goes up and my taxes go down...
