Default Le Mans - 50 Years Ago this weekend ?

My first visit to Le Mans in 1958. This is just before the start when drivers were drivers ! None of your pansy rolling starts. Taken with a Corfield Periflex 1 (best of the Leica copies) and a 5cm Lumax.

Great time warp shot. So that'll be with Jag D types and presumably some of Colin Chapman's early cars.

It's just such a shame that people aren't using enough kodachrome to persuade kodak to keep all three emulsions going. How much longer will we have K64?

Here's another. A pranged Ferrari at the exit from the Dunlop bridge - when it was a fast right-hander without the pansy boy chicane of today.. No pace car - "you just have to avoid it lads ".

Flatfour,

I'd willingly trade in any "enhanced", "sharpened", burnt in", "sent back" photo of the calculated, safe, remote 2008 Le Mans for any one of your lovely Kodachromes.

Cheers, Ken.

Default AW: Le Mans - 50 Years Ago this weekend ?

The "classic" Le Mans start was a questionable risk. Good they don´t have it these days with these cars. I joined one of the top teams this year and would love to see you driving some hours at night in an LMP1 car at that speed at Le Mans track. Drivers are still drivers and they are so much more, also these days!

I'd be happy to drive a Le Mans car but it would have to be made so that one could jump in. Also the circuit is easier now - they say because the cars are faster. That's exactly what they said in 158 ! Plus ca change. Try drivng a vintage car at 100mph round Le Mans as it is now let alone as it was.
