I could not resist a visit to this year's Keels & Wheels classic car & boat show held each spring in Seabrook, Texas which is between Houston and Galveston on the Texas Gulf Coast
each year they seem to have something I haven't seen before & this year was no exception here is an exquisite 1950 DB2 Aston Martin 96537153.3xIpph9f.jpg first puzzle, this car model played a key role in a well known Hollywood film ...do you know which one? I greatly admire the dashboards of these classic cars 96537154.kfJEG5UG.jpg on closer scrutiny I could not figure out what purpose the two electrical connectors at the bottom of the far left cluster served ...anyone here with knowledge of vintage Aston Martins know? larger versions of these (essential to see the electrical connectors) can be found here classics Photo Gallery by Artichoke Vinagrette at pbase.com though the answer to the first question is posted there as well ...no cheating hope you like Last edited by Artichoke : 05/04/08 at 08:18 PM. |

Hmmmm..... in the book Goldfinger, Mr Bond drove a DB2, don't know about the film but why am I thinking Cary Grant?
![]() The two connectors are just 12v live and earth jack-plugs; judging by their skewed positioning, I'd say that they were not put in place by the factory. Great series of shots on your site. ![]() |

Wow, Aston Martins are one of my dreams... regarding the plugs, well I can't sat what they were intended for, but I don't think they aren't factory originals,,, looking at the italian site Aston Martin db2
I found this pic : DB2.jpg Where the plugs are well visible |

The two jack sockets are simply a 12volt take off point as suggested. I used to have a DB2 back in the 1960s. Mine was a 1952 DB2 fixed head coupe, the drophead being very rare and I can't recall their being built till 1952. I'm surprised this car is dated 1950. It would be easy to tell from the chassis number. It was a delight to drive but you had to be careful not to over rev as the timing chains in those days were not so good so they tended to stretch with time.

I can't spring for a DB2, but I will get you a ticket for the 2009 Keels & Wheels show & even buy you a first rate Gulf Coast seafood dinner as your reward might even spring for some Shiner Bock Last edited by Artichoke : 05/07/08 at 04:56 AM. |

Beautiful car....
I wonder if those two small sockets are for a battery tender? They must have been installed many years ago as no current owner would fiddle with perfection....! |
