Tony,
Like this angle a lot, but MAN is that cockpit tight! Tighter than the cockpit of the Le Mans car owned by the JHT, or my memory is failing... Is this car legit?

William,
I'm open to correction here.... but I believe that the organisers of Le Mans insisted that (for some years at least) the cars mush have a full width windshield (this certainly happened with Lotus, so I guess Jag was the same), so I believe that you are correct. However the "standard" arrangement was as shown here, although there were variations, some cars had two small windscreens and I believe that at least one car did not have the tail fin! With Tony's indulgence I'll post a couple of example here- the car with a large passenger is about to be driven by Jaguar's test driver Norman Dewis, aged about 80 when I took this shot at Aintree, I think the other is JHT's car that you refer to.. Cheers, Pete. |

Pete,
I got your mail but I can't view the Forum from work anymore. My memory from 1998 isn't good enough to tell you if this last one is the JHT car,. Do you know the number? If it rains on Sunday and I can't get out, I'll try to lay my hands on those snaps to confirm.

William,
There were two at the show and I took shots of both but can't see the number and the screen at the same time! One was 774RW with red numbers on white background- I think this was a single wrap-around windscreen like Tony's shot; the other was 393RW, white letters on black- I think this is the one with wide screen, JHT car? I'm beginning to worry about myself with all this techno-crap detail !!! ![]() Cheers, Pete. |
