Lächeln Rail comparisons.

I went up to the Hunter valley with some friends to photography BIG coal trains.
We used both mediums, I used Leica R8/9 with the 28-90mm and Kodak 100G slide film
and scanned with the Minolta 5400-2.
Two others used Canon Digital.
For some comparisons between Leica film and Canon 40D.
Shots one and two, are taken with the 28-90mm.
Three and four are taken with the Canon 40D, lens not sure but a Canon L lens.
The speed at this location was around 70 kmh.

Cheers.

Couple more.

First one, R9 and the 28-90mm, K100G slide Film.
Second taken with a Canon 40D.
Speed about 80 kmh.
The R9 was set to manual focus, Canon was on Auto everything.
Compered to the slide, the scan is not to bad.

Cheers.

Interesting comparisons! The R results are quite nice.

I'd very much like to railfan your country some day... Rail photography is most of what I shoot - my site is in my profile.

Hello Ken.

I am glad that you're also a rail fan, I have been shooting trains since 1968 and Leicas from 1973.
Compared to my other cameras that I have used over the years the Leicas especially the R are the best Cameras that I have used, the optics are just wonderful.
The M7 is super also.
Inclosed another shot taken with the R9 and the 28-90mm of four 82's (EMD's) with their Dynamic grids and fans howling, heading back to the Coal mines to fill up with 10,000 tons of Coal for China.
