IkarusJohn Posted July 11, 2013 Share #1 Posted July 11, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Had to drop my bike in for a service this morning They gave me this as a loan bike. Holy Moly! This goes like the clappers, with an acceleration and an exhaust sound that is completely addictive! And it's classified as a learner approved bike! Jesus wept! Fast trip in to work, and in an odd way, I was glad to give it back - I'm not sure what I'd lose first, my licence or my life! Summilux 35/1.4 FLE ISO 320, 1/125 @ F/1.4 Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Hi IkarusJohn, Take a look here My morning ride. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
stuny Posted July 11, 2013 Share #2 Posted July 11, 2013 Lovely shot. Great product name. The first Kawasakis I saw were two strokes and made a ring-ding-ding-ding sound. Then I fired up my first Ninja. Yikes!
Karl G Posted July 11, 2013 Share #3 Posted July 11, 2013 Wait until Milan in November when the new Monster with the 1098 derived engine is announced. Now THAT will be a Monster! Your loaner was the "Baby Monster" designed for beginners, the 696 . I always got Monsters as loaners when I had the 1098S and the Multistrada 1200S in for service. They are an absolute blast to ride and a great urban bike ( the Monster 696). You owe it to yourself to test ride a Duc Multistrada. I have lots of miles on Beemers and that includes GS models. The GS is like driving a pickup truck with camper vs a Porsche Cayenne in way of comparison. The new WC GS will be better, but still down on HP, top heavy, and just big and heavy in general. Enjoy, ride safe and have a great road trip when you get around to that time.
IkarusJohn Posted July 11, 2013 Author Share #4 Posted July 11, 2013 Thanks Karl, It is a 659. While it felt way too small for me, it was a hoot! I don't particularly like that head first, draped over the tank position. Buy, firing up that peach of an engine is addictive, and the acceleration and handling a revelation. Not sure I liked the vibration at low revs much. A bigger bike would suit me more, and would make a far bigger mess! pauledell Posted July 11, 2013 Share #5 Posted July 11, 2013 A fine shot but I wouldn't straddle that beast. Paul
Karl G Posted July 12, 2013 Share #6 Posted July 12, 2013 I see the number and looked it up, I see the 659 was specifically made for the Aussie market as a learners bike. We only get the 696 which looks the same and same dimensions except apparently engine size. Being used to a Ducati sport the Monster seems relaxed but there is nothing visually in front of you which is fun but disconcerting and adds to the sense of speed. I had a wonderful ride on the Multistrada today myself. Thanks again for the lovely picture.
IkarusJohn Posted July 12, 2013 Author Share #7 Posted July 12, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) My pleasure. I have researched the 2013 Multistrada, and I will test it against the BMW. Will let you know what I decide. There's nothing in the price. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
IkarusJohn Posted February 7, 2014 Author Share #8 Posted February 7, 2014 Okay, bit the bullet. 2013 build (new) Ducati MTS 1200 S Touring, red with the larger GT screen, engine bars, LED spots and top box. Very pleased. When I test rode the bike, I was surprised at how refined and compliant the bike was. Rev happy, but very well behaved just pootling around town, and ferocious if you wind up your right hand on the open road. Beautifully balanced in the twisty bits. Thanks for the recommendation, Karl! Cheers John
Peter H Posted February 8, 2014 Share #9 Posted February 8, 2014 John, I'm not into bikes but that looks a very seductive piece of machinery. Good luck with your new machine. It sounds like a fantastic toy and probably a great way of getting about. Have fun, be safe. Good photo by the way!
fotografr Posted February 8, 2014 Share #10 Posted February 8, 2014 Now you know why they gave it out as a loaner. You'll be dreaming about it until you go back and buy it.

lanetomlane Posted February 18, 2014 Share #14 Posted February 18, 2014 Beautiful, but I'll stick with the old man's bike …. R1150RS, love it. By the way, the photography is great. Ride safe. ________________ Regards, Tom Photography by Tom Lane
Karl G Posted February 18, 2014 Share #15 Posted February 18, 2014 John, Congratulations, belatedly, and she is a stunner. I am sure you love it as much as I do mine.
Brenton C Posted February 20, 2014 Share #16 Posted February 20, 2014 (edited) If riding a sport bike is like sex on wheels, surely the Duke offers all the thrills, and dangers of unprotected sex. . . .on wheels. Um, so to speak. Staggeringly beautiful! What does it say on the motor there? Testosterone Stilleto? Says it all! Congratulations on your choice. IkarusJohn Posted February 20, 2014 Author Share #17 Posted February 20, 2014 I have only done 300km so far. Only been able to ride to and from work - I'm very very very happy. Nicely balanced, compliant, refined, and completely feral if you unwind your right hand! Woohoo!
