I'd say it is still useful as a photography subject. Nice texture and exposure. I remember now why I bought my 75. Cheers, Paul.

I find the OOF areas of this shot very unsettling.

It seems, that there is NO REAL INFOCUS-area in this shot

Paul,

It was an experiment because I found the lichens growing in the metal fascinating, but these were in deep shadow and 1/30th with lens ain't enough. One member who refuses to post on this Forum anymore said that he enjoyed the abstraction.

Andy,

You just saved yourself a bundle.

Ron,

Motion blur aside, the plane of sharpest focus is on the middle lichens and that rust flake just above it. In your spare time, , you ought to visit the color archives of Leitz from the seventies. You will find much better macro abstracts with no sharp plane of focus taken by some real masters. Maybe you will like them, maybe not..., but a Leitz or Leica lens has never just been about sharpness alone. This is probably a poor example.

Well, I wasn't planning to spend a bundle on 75 anyway. So that's good!

I am sure there's nothing wrong with the lens, William, and I am sure the OOF areas are rendered properly. All I said was that the fact that maybe only a 2mm plane within this photograph is in focus, is unsettling to my eye.

Would have been interesting to see what your 60 Macro-Elmarit would have made of this.

Andy,

Could have shot this dead-on as Dan does with his Nocti shots. Was interested in trying something different. I'm not bothered by the OOF as you are. Wish instead I had used the 50 ASPH at 125th instead of this lens at 1/30th but I had resolved to use only the 28/2 and 75/2 for these. Live and learn. I'll trust my instincts in future.

As for the 60/2.8, you don't really want me to haul the SL around just for this?! Seriously, I find it difficult to shoot M's and SLR's at the same time. The 60/2.8 would have done O.K. with this with slightly less vivid color and contrast. OOF might be smoother. It would be a good but different look, maybe even more abstract.

Going to take a lot of bondo or creative welding

I quit like the shot, would have been nice to have a bit more depth but that was the light you had.
