I was just north of Bordeaux in France - Marais de Poitou area - when I stopped to take some snaps of punts on the canals and parked next to about 20 of the most beautiful 1960s Citroen cars (DX?). When I worked in Paris I sometimes used to go to Parc Andre Citroen which stands where the old car plant used to be - metro station Javel has some interesting old photographs. I wonder how many of these cars were built there.

These were "space age" when they came out (mid 50s?), hydraulic everything: brakes, steering, gear shift, suspension, adjustable ride height; lightweight glass-fibre roof, aero rear wings covering road wheels (remove one bolt and the wing lifts off).
The more modern one in the shot has headlamps which turn with the steering, but they had ditched the hydraulic gear shift by then. Beautiful cars, well captured. ![]()

we don't see enough of them in the US, though a few did make it over here
I have yet to have had a camera in my hands on the rare times I have seen one on the road your photograph is a lovely reminder for me of the one time I drove in one when I lived in the UK (all too briefly in the early '80s) ...I remember being very impressed with the steering wheel and brake bump (I don't think pedal is quite appropriate) |
