Default Porsche

I took this shot this past summer and was wondering what model is this? This is one of my favorite Porsche designs. Shot taken with M4-P and 50 Elmar with Rollei Pan 25 developed in D76 stock. Thanks for looking.

I think it's a Cayman, Bill...fixed hardtop version of the Boxster.

Thanks.

the car in the left is indeed a cayman. the car in the middle seems to be a 911 convertible, considering that it has a textile roof and is missing air intakes on its sides as well as the cayman-specific lamps in the front-air-intakes.
anyway, both of them are great...
greetings,

-tim-

Thanks Allan and Tim, looks like they have been making the 911 for a long time.

Bill -

Tim is correct, and if memory serves, the 911 (first called 901 until Peugeot sued to stop Porsche from using a designation of tripple digits with a zero in the middle) the fist ones showed up in 1961 or 1962. Pete is bound to know.

Stuart,

The last genuine 911 was built in 1989. Then came 962, (ugh). company saved by the 993, a decent GT and last Porsche built by men with leather aprons and last air-cooled, 996 bathtub and now 997 bathtub above. Did you forget the name of my employer for the last 23 years? Home Who is Pete?

Stuart,
I don't think a case actually got to court, Porsche was a tiny outfit back then and could not afford to battle with a giant like Peugeot, seems they took the best way out.
The 901 was unveiled at the Frankfurt show at the end of '63, in August '64 production of the 912 started. This had the 4cyl 1600cc engine from the 356c, which continued in production too, as the 6cyl engine was not production ready and they would not consider launching something with banding and magenta casts........ oops, wrong story. The 911 came on the market in Setember of 1964, apparently.
All this from Richard von Frankenberg's excellent 1977 book "Porsche, Double World Champions 1900-1977". Hey, you didn't think I remembered all this stuff did you?

Cheers,
Pete. Who?

William -

I thought your dealership was in central or southern NJ, not Parsippany, and I didn't recall it was Paul Miller's.

You're right about the 911, but a soft top is not a real Porsche in the eyes if officianados.
Picture is of my first Porsche in 1962, a 1957 356A. Second picture is my current car a 911 Carera. First pic taken with a Periflex ( poor man's Leica,) second with a Digilux 2 (lazyman's Leica)

Nice then and now shots, Anthony. I didn't know the Porsche was such a popular subject here. If I see more Porsches around I will photograph them and post them here if that is ok. I really like that 911 style car. Of course it would have to be at the car dealers and such.

Hi flatfour!

My uncle buyed an 1966 SC Cabrio (red with black leather seats) in 1967 - an is still owning it. I decided to take an 3,2 ´87 in 1999.

Flatsix ;-)
