Default Le Mans Classic #2

"Move over!"

GT40 makes way for faster traffic.

Pete,

Truly, a serious challenger to the throne in arears here!

I read your post elsewhere about the GT 40 that went into the tire-barrier...and was wondering what sort of commemoration was done to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the 1-2-3 Ford pulled off in 1966.

Did you see any special on- or off-track activities in this regard?

Thanks.

Allan

There was a fairly massive GT40 presence, also the GT40 clones and Ford GT's were there in force.
Neil Aldritt was on track with his GT, this shot of his car was taken through the tinted double glazing of the media centre over the pits, I have not done any work on it.

Cheers,
Pete.

William- this was just the BEST EVER long week-end. Superb Elan convoy drive through the Suisse Normande on the way down, one day ahead of the Tour de France.

Does this look a bit like the 60's? Apart from the buildings.....

Cheers,
Pete.

One of the major annoyances with this new forum is the fact that one can't see images and if your attachment is oversize it just does not tell you; it posts the message without the photo!

Pete.

Agree about the time warp, Pete. It could be 1966.

Thanks for sharing these.

Hi Pete - I've finally found my way onto the new forum! Quite an effort with timed out passwords etc....

Le Mans was huge fun wasn't it? A real treat to drive the full circuit too - sorry we missed each other and thanks for finding and shooting me!

Allan, there was some organisation to celebrate the 1966/2006 anniversary - although it was loose (ish). Roush, who are the technology partner for Ford (and who were part of the development of the Ford GT) invited UK owners of the Ford GT to Le Mans. There are, in theory, 28 GT's in the UK and 10 drove in convoy to Le Mans. We had parking in the circuit and drove the circuit in a parade lap (although it turned into a free-for-all, which was great fun). The UK based GT40 Enthusiasts Club (who build nut-and-bolt replicas of GT40's were there in force with around 40 GT40's. A very nice crowd.

I took several pictures of the huge Morgan gathering with you in mind - when I get onto my home computer I'll post them to you.

Here are a few 'snaps' - I don't think they qualify as decent photographs really. Taken on my RD-1 with the Leica 50mm (which is proving a much better lens than the 28m)

It was foggy at the petrol station by the way...

Neal,

Interesting snaps. There were 500+ Morgans there, all organized by Quentin English, who always invites me but unfortunately I can't afford the time or the $$$ those logistics would require from the U.S. via London. Maybe in some other lifetime...

A very nice series of pictures Pete. So many GT40s I wonder how many were replicas. Some are so good it is very difficult to tell.

Flatfour - all of them were replicas. There were only 6 road going GT40's made (if memory serves).
