Wonderful, as usual. For those who are looking at these who are not from the U.S., the last photo shows the first use of a rear view mirror on an automobile, a reminder that racing improves the breed.

Hi Stuart!

Thank you, and yes indeed...that is Ray Harroun's 1911 Marmon Wasp with the first RVM.

It came about because other drivers (in two-seat cars) complained that the single-seat configuration was dangerous, as Harroun had no "mechanic" riding alongside to spot for him. Thus, the first Indianapolis 500 winner mounted that crude contraption to "satisfy" the critics, and took full advantage of the weight savings all the way to the checkered flag.
