Default Bright-eyed Porsche

I was on my way to an appointment with Sir Stirling Moss, when I saw this immaculate Porsche Carrera in Shepherd St, Mayfair. What else could I do but take a shot?

Name dropper!

Nice shot though - the depth of the paintwork colour really shines through here.

Ian -

Fabulously well executed shot of one of Porche's best details, and I envy your visit with Sir Stirling, one of my two favorite drivers of all time.

It's winking at you, saying, "Buy me, buy me". Lovely saturated blue.

Far be it from any member of this forum to drop names! But while I'm at it, a few days earlier I was at a conference having a chat wih HRH The Princess Royal.

Sir Stirling was a boyhood hero of mine and I was quite chuffed that he gave me 50 minutes over morning tea at his home - he signed some of my books and a photograph of him in the 1956 Italian GP - even showed me over his 1956 Scrapbook to confirm that it was that particular race. I took a photo of him on the R6 but had to focus at f2 and was really miffed that, in my efforts to be quick, I focused about three inches behind his eyes. The digital shot turned out OK, though.

With best wishes,

Ian

I saw Stirling Moss race at Mossport, Canada in the 60's.

One of his races was a one-lap promotional race for Mini Minors. He was fourth or fifth as he came charging around the last curve towards the finish line and it looked like he had forgotten that it was only a one-lap race. He slammed on the brakes, spun the car two or three times and neatly parked the car on the finish line besides those cars who had already finished!

The crowd went wild.

Hi Malcolm,

He used to have a mini as his personal car in London, and from what you've just said and from what I've read elsewhere, there was sometimes little difference between his driving in London and what he did at Mosport!

With best wishes,

Ian
