There's a similarity in shape between the sea foam and the actual footprint !

Beautifully simple! As Stuart noticed, it almost looks like the footprint is pressing out of, instead of into, the sand.

By the way, if you turn the image upside-down (stand on your head or move the monitor) the impression changes from convex to concave. Has to do with the shadows, I believe.
