Yes, I think even a flatbed-scanner like the Canoscan 8600f would be better.

ya man.. dont know the canon models but i have epson 4990photo that i use for fast proof scans and even can make nice 8x10" proof print on it... just make sure u get the silverfast (lasersoft) software and then u can take a real control over your photos.
