Friends...this is my first portra 160nc with my IIIf and hektor 28mm at 6.3. the lens is some foggy, and scratched. I saw some vigneting, is this characteristic for this lens?
, do you think the lens worth a CLA?, the photo has no manipulation at all, just downsized por post it. Regards... |

Erwin Puts says :
vigneting is 3 stops, but distorsion is not visible at all. Medium contrast at the (modest ) maximum aperture with good reproduction of the subject outlines and pleasing central definition of finer details. The zones next to the center are quite soft, but improve when approaching the corners. This behavior indicates the balancing of residual errors to optimise the performance. Stopping down does improve the overall quality and best aperture is f/11. A CLA should be a good decision. |

Bob -
It's difficult to say since this appears to need a better scan. I improved it some, but without a better scan limitations of the lens will be masked. Perhaps John Mead, a master scanner will see this and comment. |

Agree with JC... old Hektor wide open DOES vignette significantly, can't help... boys, it's a design of '30s... and color films were yet to come... and the only competitor was a Zeiss Tessar f8... I have the Hektor and also the postwar Summaron 28 f 5,6: I used this one many times with film, and was really better than Hektor... but anyway, better to close also it at f11
Of course, with M8 part of the vignetting problem is solved... ![]() |

If you want to shoot colour film with a 28mm on an LTM Leica, buy a Skopar.
However, you do get a unique look by using these older lenses with colour film - don't expect modern performance, and vignetting is quite normal. From the first shot I would say that your lens has some haze, which will benefit from a CLA. Will Leica ever listen and make some LTM mount lenses again?! |
