Default Couple by candlelight

Don't know if this works. My son and his girlfriend. I had my son hold a candle holder just below the picture to illuminate their faces in the garden at night.

Big -

Handsome son, very good idea, and in its current incarnation it almost works superbly. All it needs is to bring up the midtones and highlights a bit, which then shows that the young woman needs a bit of sharpening, as below. Of course if the light source was quite a bit stronger the effect would have been weird and horror film-like. But with just one foot-candle it works well.

Could look better in bnw, though the blown highlights under the noses, chins etc would be somewhat flat in dynamics.......... then without any substantial grain the image is a bit soft to be effective

Stuart, Stanmi - thanks for the advice. Looking at the photo again - the colours are too difficult to control in post processing.

Here is a b&w version but even then I don't think this photo is really salvagable. One thing I have learned is that it requires a lot more effort to focus at 1.4 in very dim light....
