Attended a wedding of a long time friend over the weekend and brought along my M8. As this as the first time for me using the M8 at a wedding, I was a little hesitant on how to shoot. Previous weddings, I'd use a DSLR with various zoom lenses so I had the flexibility of getting close up shots. So going in, I had to change my mindset. I only had one lens, my 35 summarit, so I had to understand my limitations of forgoing some of the "standard" wedding shots like going in close when presenting the ring, or the kiss of the bride. As there were plenty of other photogs there, with a professional on hand as well, I felt those shots would be heavily represented. Instead I tried to capture the emotions of the day through things that happened around the bride and groom; focus on things that other cameras were not.
I really loved the M8 for weddings. The light compact weight, compared to DSLR; 35mm I found is perfect in that I could take tight shots in a small room; using f/2.5 for all my shots provided me with great DOF and great sharp group shots; never missed my flash as M8 was great with available light; using RAW meant I didn't have to worry about WB. I don't think I could handle the stress of being a wedding photog, especially one using an M system so big props to Ricci and others here which do so. Here's a couple of shots from the wedding. B&W shots processed using Alien Skin Kodak Tri-X 400 skin. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

How many photographers did they actually hire?
The Uncle Bobs and Cousin Jeffs and Aunt Matildas can afford those DSLRs but rarely know how to mount a flash, much less bounce it. Looks like a press corps for the White House. I've had those weddings. |

I once attended a wedding of a couple, where she was a working photographer - not to mention, that half of the guests were photogs as well.
They didn't ask anyone to take photos, but a lot of the friends offered to cover the wedding. They came up with a lovely solution: every interested photog got a "part" of the whole day. #1 covered the dress up #2 covered the marital office part with only close family #3 shot available light inside the church #4 was waiting outside, covering the coach #5 did the party #6 did the "official" shots They ended up with a wonderful mixture that covered the whole day and was fun for everyone attending. You did an excellent job capturing the fun and joy that was part of their wedding day. The second image is top notch.
Thanks for sharing and for the inspiration. Cheers,

Hey,
I'm a bit confused here; are the two guys kissing the wedding couple? I especially like the B&W shot. Three Cheers for the happy couple (although I'm not sure if its the two guys kissing who seem to be the center of attention, or the guy with the wine glass and the laughing woman behind him). Either way, three cheers! Wilfredo Benitez-Rivera Photography Last edited by wilfredo; 09.08.2008 at 17:04. |

the two guys kissing is a game played when the groom and the guys pick up the bride. they're actually passing a piece of plastic around a circle of guys with their lips.
