this gentleman is recuperating from back surgery, and is making his slow, painful rounds each time i've visited the local hospital to see my mother-in-law.
i normally don't like fluorescent lighting, but the overall effect here with muted colors and polished floors pleased me. summilux 75mm, ISO 160, 1/125 at f1.4, vertical crop from a horizontal image. thanks for looking greetings from hamburg rick |

I agree. Very touching, gripping shot, in its cold, clinic, desperate way.
Technically, I'd try to enhance the grays and mute the yellowish/ greenish cast of the fluos. |

thank you, martin and sthan.
i've attached the original here for your info, just reduced to 800 x 600, no other changes. the patient was at least 50 meters away, so "depth" was available. as to reducing the greenish cast or transforming it to more greys, i agree completely, and will give it a try, but i'm still very much a beginner in photoshop, so wish me luck. good weekend rick |

Rick, as for the crop, seeing your original, you may consider total asymmetry,
leaving the wall on the right, which enhance isolation and distance, and cropping the first cart on the left. I gave it a quick try, without your permission, I admit. For PS, you may try Adjustments > Selective color or > Hue/Saturation. Don't forget to make a copy… Nice week-end to you. Last edited by Hel-Stampes : 05/17/08 at 08:13 PM. |

![]() I prefer the "uncropped" version. I think your first idea with showing more of his way was a good one. No doubt, the vertical version is strong, but, in my opinion, the original is better. Cheers, Eckart |

Tintin : to me, the wall was not deprived of interest, the railings being much telling.
Anyway, I was a bit fâché, I'm not anymore : some members here have a bossy tendancy to judge, instead of discussing. Im' glad you're not one of them. |

merci tout d'abord a martin et sthan pour le "crop" (toujours bienvenu, permission automatique) et pour la creativite et soin dans vos reponses et commentaires.
eckart, when you refer to the "uncropped" version, i believe you mean my top (first) attachment, and thank you for your positive comment. i think the original (my second attachment in landscape format) probably has too much wall and too many carts to be effective. i know you're all busy composing and posting great photos in LUF, and i'm happy you took some time to give me some feedback on mine. greetings from hamburg rick |
