Barbara, my mermaid, ascending to our five minute safety stop at 5 meters. This was during one of our 41 dives in Malaysian Borneo. I’ve processed about half the photos now (600 of the 1200), so very soon you’ll see some photos mostly in the Nature and Wildlife section showing underwater and rainforest captures.

DES - Thank you. The set-up was the Panasonic version of the C-Lux in a Panasonic enclosure good to 40 meters, mounted on a base with an extension and arm for a flash. The flash was on Inon 2000, firing slaved off the camera's built in flash via an optical cable. If I have a chance I'll take a photo of the set-up and post it here.
Reinier - Even though your remark is funny, the first underwater cameras were rangefinders -- the Calypso, invented by Jacques Cousteau. Cousteau sold the design to Nikon, giving birth to the series of Nikonos underwater rangefinder cameras. A number of years ago rI ented them to use when SCUBA diving. Martin, Ruben, Gunnar & Michael - Thank you. Here's another two shots of Barbara during other dives. |

Dirk, Ivan, Ben & Chuck - Thank you.
Marc - These three photos are at Sipadan. Since you've been there you know that Sipadan is a sanctuary for sea turtles, and one usually sees several on every dive -- Not only at Sipadan, but also at Mabul and Kapalai. We stayed at Mabul, and at least half of our dives were "muck" dives, which is a misnomer, since it really means the small stuff. Pictures to follow. |

Your effort paid off, Stuart!
Perfect title too! If you have a chance I'd like to see that rig. Not that I would be doing this anytime soon. My wife saw the movie Jaws... ![]() Amado |

Amado -
I will within the next few days. Part of not making sure you don't hear the Jaws music is to dive in warm waters -- The most aggressive sharks are in the open sea and/or in temporate or cold waters. The waters in these photos were almost warm enough to bring along soap and shampoo. |
