richards, stefans photo looks better indded, but do not trust it... nor his potos on the website nor mines, nor what ever u see on the website, especially when it comes to black and white.
stefans contrast is really good and i suppose to my taste, but ussualy, the look of his photos are too METALIC. im sure his BARYTA (silvergelatin on fiber base paper) are FANTASTIC, but dont trust internet. for example - i go the other way, even if i love alot of PUNCH on BARYTA paper - to avoid this misleading "metalic" look. warm tones somehow remove the metalic feeling but still not the best impression.... as i already recomended u... go and see tru silver gelatin prints if u want to develop your taste and sensetivity to black and white photography. at least look if not doing it. later u will be able to find your look as u like it.

Stuart - Thanks for commenting, it is a little of both, I take a lot of pictures, some from the hip because I don't speak enough Turkish to ask permission of the mothers or explain my photo taking. Much of what I take is documenting life here (like less fortunate bare foot kids and scattered paving stones) and are candid, getting good at "hip shooting" helps.
Victor - Thanks for commenting, It has a little cropping to allow more space for the direction of travel and to be less centered. As always I post and read posts to learn. Stefan - Thanks for commenting and taking the time to give me an example of your hand at better tones, for the most part I like what you have done. Was it done mostly with burning the shadows and midtones? I try to copy it but back off on the hair, it looks just a little to dark. Richard |

""nor his potos on the website""
please don´t talk about things you diden´t see in the real world...at least when it comes to my work, thank you very much! my work on the screen is just an impression of the motive, the prints in real time look thousend times better. Last edited by imported_stefan_r : 09/12/06 at 03:10 PM. |

excuse me mr ROHNER - "your photos in real world looks thousend times better"...
read carefully - isnt it what i said - that i belive and sure that the prints look far better. ???????? either i dont speack clealry, or u dont read clearly mr Rohner. i just know what is the differance between darkroom and when u try to fully give the "look" of darkrom on computer. surely problematic when it comes to internet size photos... so i can imagine somehow what is your intention when u make your internet photos.

Stefan - Thanks, here is my hand at it, this has helped I will work with this on more of my shots.
Victor - While I was reworking the tones I opened up the crop a little more, I could have left it as shot but applied some rotation and worked within those confines. Richard |

Pleasingly to see your effort to help each other and to gain the best results oout of your cameras. I wish I could do my part but I am just left to watch and learn. Thanks.
@Victor, do you do all your Silverfast work on a 12" Powerbook?

uwe - no, it is 15" (the last powerbook before the macbook pro - it has monitor thar can be trusted). ya i do most on this one, but when needed either attach cinema, or do it on big mac. but here, now, i have only this powerbook with me.
usually for serious prints (color) - high end scanner (imacon or creo, depends where it is done, i dont own them myslef), big mac, and 30 cinema, with picture that is edited in real physical size appearence. only that way u can really trust it - i mean amazing who similar it looks on smoe of the papers wen printed relativly to cinema monitors (of course everything color managed etc). unfortunatly, we dont have in israel ilfochrom supply for a long time. i want it for my personal projects, maybe i will arrange something though. it is very sexy, i love the less glossy one :-) ah sorry - forgot, i do use photoshop too if needed, but usually i love the silverfast the most. one thing does bother me about silverfast though - it has no full screen editing mode - really neccessary in my opinion. u can enlarge the window of course and it will refresh the preview. but then it gets bulky in work. on cinema it is ok to have smaller window, there is plenty of space on monitor, but here it is smaller on 15"
