Default Waiting and Reading

Though I’ve been to Paris a number of times, and often got photos of Notre Dame’s exterior, I taken few if any inside. This young nun was waiting her turn to go to confession, and the confessionals were ultra modern in this structure that began construction in the 9th century. You can see more Notre Dame interior photos on the 4th page of Paris photo galleries on our site.

Stu, the post is too small for us older readers to get a good view. Please help the nearly blind & feeble.

Stuart, beautiful light and subject. There's a lot to look at here and that weak light makes everything more interesting.

At first look, I should feel the same dutch atmosphere as photophile. Impressive mood, quite perfect catch of the light.

Michel

Stuart,

This is gorgeous. Yes, it really does feel like a Dutch master.

Superb

Stunning Stuart. Like the others, I thought it might be a Vermeer at first glance. (But then I saw the glass doorways.)

Coos, Ty, Jonathan, Michel, Michael, William, Mike and Frans - Thank you. I do very much like many of the Dutch and Flemish masters, most particularly Vermeer. As I shot this I had no conciouse thought of those artists, but I must have been influenced.

Ben - For us geezers, I hope to have time tonight to make and post a bigger version.

Stuart,

Amazing light!

Have you considered cropping out the bright window on the left?

Imagine trying to read in that light.

I went to Washington, DC, several years ago specifically to see the Vermeer exhibit at the National Gallery. It was easily the best collection of art I've ever seen. Did you happen to see it?

Hi Stuart,

This is a lovely capture, but for me is much too heavy in the key area. Forgive me if that was precisely what you wanted and it certainly is appreciated by many.

However, I've taken the liberty of re-working this (which is something I stopped doing last week after the edit thread, but suspect you won't mind) into more how i would do it.

One of the rewards I've enjoyed this last two years is watching how you and that guy from Malta have really progressed into superb contributors to this Forum. He doesn't do any moderating though.

Thanks for sharing this image.

Rolo

I like it very much and agree about the similarity to a painting.

I don't know Rolo, I think in the quest for pushing the contrast your rework loses some of the subtle tonal range in areas like the painting above the nun. I also think it feels less natural. Just my opinion, but I prefer the original version as Stuart posted it.

Stuart, superb shot. Any details you would care to share with us regarding this photograph (i.e. camera, lens, film stock if applicable or if you shot it with an M8)?

Thanks!
