The Chief of Chipoka Village, Malawi
![]() And rush hour... ![]() House interior with presents; this is the only luxury this family will know for the coming year until we visit them again. We are helping them putting their children through school through Plan International. The whole village benefits from this NGO. ![]() And this is the classroom....The most prized thing in rural Africa is education, it is the only ticket out of poverty. ![]() Last edited by jaapv : 11/25/07 at 02:55 AM. |

Jaap,
Both images are very good. Pleasing tones in the 1st and beautiful colours presented in the 2nd. The addition of the little girl on the left, makes the image even nicer. Very well captured. Azzo |

These are beautiful Jaap. The color is superb and you obviously connected with the villagers. A country in abject poverty. I spent some time with an Anglican priest studying here at our Seminary in Virginia and he had three parishes to cover, riding hours on a beat up bicycle. Amazing that even extreme poverty in Malawi cannot completely extinguish the human spirit. Thanks for bringing these to us.

Thanks for sharing these Jaap. How did you end up at this location? Are you working for an NGO? The tragedy here is that as we further move into a global economy the gap between rich and poor grows wider and wider...

No, I am just what they call" a dedicated traveller to the continent" - I do have my own NGO - we provide oral surgery in a country where there are no consultants - none on 15 million inhabitants (the ratio of doctors is about one to a milion and dentists about one to three million) but this village is one that I got to know through Plan International.
