Default Berlin cafe

13 Oct, Saturday evening, after the 'One Challenge', having a drink with Adrian, Carsten, James, and Robert, in a cafe in Prenzlauer Berg.

IIIc with 2.8 50mm Elmar, Tri-X, Rodinal. It was pretty dark -- exposures about 1/4 second at f2.8 so lots of camera shake, subject movement, and imprecise focussing. Better than expected, really! Thought it would make an interesting comparison with the results of digital cameras under similar conditions.

Do I hear an implicit request for comparison images from a digital M?

James, 50 Lux Asph, ISO 1250, 1/20s, f/1.4:

Adrian, 50 Lux Asph, ISO 1250, 1/30s, f/1.4:
L1030068.jpg

Robert, 75 Lux, ISO 2500, 1/15s, f/1.4:
L1030073.jpg

John, 75 Lux, ISO 1250, 1/8s, f/1.4:

I didn't take that last one, so I can't take responsibility

With a bit of fiddling, I could probably get the ISO 1250 pictures much smoother, but I like the Tri-X look.

Um...it must be an aquired taste. Dont think you need a Leica lens for that. How are you scanning? Maybe there is an answer in that?

I'm sure it is an acquired taste. Does one need a Leica a lens -- for this or anything else? Almost surely not. Would be a shame to reserve them only for when needed! I used a Minolta film scanner (a Scan Dual II - rather old now). But actually the scans seem to have come out fine.

Carsten -- good to see your pictures. The M8 produces much clearer and sharper images, but actually the film doesn't compare too badly. It was pretty dark by that time.

John, Carsten, good images! I enjoyed that drink and chat - forgot about the photos, I should have tried some as well.
