farnz Posted February 28, 2015 Share #1 Posted February 28, 2015 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) I wound up in a small, dimly-lit, back-street jazz club in London late one night where the patrons clung to the shadows murmuring quietly and a corner was set aside with a mic and a small drum set. It's the sort of place that ten years ago would have had a thick atmosphere propped up by a haze of cigarette smoke but these days the air is clear and the character leaks out of the very walls themselves. I'd had a couple of shorts to keep out the cold and was getting ready to leave when Bess appeared out of the gloom as her drummer sat down, picked up the mic and she started to sing. She had a voice sweeter than honey and stagecraft to match and the sax just slid around room as smooth as silk-lined velvet. I was spellbound and forgot to leave. Thank you for making the time to look at my picture and, as always, I welcome your comments. Pete. Welcome, dear visitor! carl_valiquet Posted March 3, 2015 Share #6 Posted March 3, 2015 Hi Pete, The text accompanying the photograph was all I saw when I opened the thread. I read it carefully without looking at the photograph. Your words reminded me of the times I would spend at the smoky Black Bottom jazz club in Montreal in the 70’s. Then I looked at your image. I love it! Bess’s well lit face and her silhouetted sensuous body swaying to the music of the sax player behind her makes this a classic photograph. Bravo.
