Advertisement Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 Hi A miller, Take a look here "Lock Up Killer Cops". I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
robert_parker Posted December 14, 2014 Share #2 Posted December 14, 2014 Powerful set of images. The perspective of the 28 and the saturation and near HDR effect of the postprocessing add to the overall feel of the images.
A miller Posted December 14, 2014 Author Share #3 Posted December 14, 2014 Many thanks, Robert. Silly them, they positioned themselves with massive backlighting and didn't bring along any reflectors
xalo Posted December 14, 2014 Share #4 Posted December 14, 2014 (edited) Adam, A strong set indeed. Your photos, choice of frame and colour render well the intensity of the situation. For sure, there is often not much choice of light In this type of event, but you made a lot with what you got. The first and third are my favourite. A miller Posted December 15, 2014 Author Share #5 Posted December 15, 2014 Many thanks, Alexander. The first is my clear favorite. The woman with the megaphone was quite attractive, which was slightly diminished by how angrily she was yelling. For a moment, I thought that she was yelling so hard that she was foaming from the nose; but then I looked closer and discovered that it was merely a nose ring
allamande Posted December 15, 2014 Share #6 Posted December 15, 2014 Portra comes through big time with that backlighting! Terrific set. #1 and #3 especially shine. Ece
A miller Posted December 15, 2014 Author Share #7 Posted December 15, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks a lot, Ece. I know how much of a portra fan you are, as am i. I have, however, just acquired some old ektachrome that i will be playing around with. It is a little bit of pot luck, but what the heck. XVarior Posted December 15, 2014 Share #8 Posted December 15, 2014 Is that the same protest Wilfredo covered in a post above? Beautiful reportage here too.

wilfredo Posted December 15, 2014 Share #12 Posted December 15, 2014 Thanks for sharing these Adam. It's a breath of fresh air to see so many young people engage in protest!
A miller Posted December 15, 2014 Author Share #13 Posted December 15, 2014 Thanks, Wilfredo. Based on the video of the choke-hold death that my 13-year old saw ahead of me , I think this is a cause that is worthy of broad activisim.
sblitz Posted December 15, 2014 Share #14 Posted December 15, 2014 Love the first one as a pure photo. Yes film is especially good with light this time of year
A miller Posted December 15, 2014 Author Share #15 Posted December 15, 2014 Thanks, Steve. I also like the first the best. As for the light this time of year, I think it is both good and bad. Good when it's actually visible on the street out and bad when it is not b/c it is hidden due to the angle of the sun and the concrete-walled world in which we live. There wasn't a cloud in the sky this morning and yet I couldn't find any sun-filled streets on my way to work due to the particular area of Manhattan in which I work. sblitz Posted December 15, 2014 Share #16 Posted December 15, 2014 true .... but i just meant the latitude between dark and light, chances are most if not all sensors would've blown the highlights in the first picture. not trying to start a roue here. just noticed the other day in central park shooting digital and film and seeing what came out.
A miller Posted December 15, 2014 Author Share #17 Posted December 15, 2014 Gotcha, now I understand where you are coming from. The pushing of the portra is quite evident here due to the heavy backlighting, which necessitated the crushing of the shadows. In this case I think the extra contrast was rather effective..
