Faces in the crowd

With my MM at Leica being resuscitated (don't ask), I took my M9 and 75 summilux for a stroll on my work commute yesterday. Needed to test the focus accuracy of the lens as it had been my MM.

Here are some shots from the lens wide open. Thankfully, all is well with the focusing ability of both the M9 and the lens.

(The one thing I really hate about the M digital bodies is the extreme sensitivity to rangefinder alignment.)

Nothing serious here; but in any case would love to hear any and all reactions, time and interest permitting.

Best, Adam

A bonus for those who chew tobacco or dip "snuff" tobacco under your bottom lip...

This is astonishing Adam, just surreal 3D effect! wow. I don't know what you're hating but me I'm in love ;-)

I'm starting to feel and think that the CCD sensor has a special thing CIMOS just don't.

I may be wrong, I don't know, but having the M9 myself now and seeing pictures I'm more and more getting convinced of that has a unique touch of magic to it!

Many thanks, XV and Stuart. Appreciate the remarks.

Not to take anything away from the M9, these shots were taken on a reasonably bright cloudy day. This is when the M9 is really at its best.

I wish I could use it more for street shots but the style of shooting that I have become somewhat addicted to calls for a very fast shutter. And only on the most sunny of days can I use the M9 for this (and keep the files in color) due to the crappy ISO.

But on those occasions in which the ISO can be kept at 320 or under, the M9 is a wonderful tool.

And the lens is a wonder as well. However, I had to scrap many interesting shots b/c of purple and green fringes.

Thanks again!

Best,

Adam

After 3 months "almost" with the M9 I'm hardly seeing any skin tone trouble, and ISO around 1000 looks pretty good in color and splendid in B&W. The Uzbek model shots were all shot using ISO 640 in bright sunlight for that grainy look I was after for B&W. Love this camera!

Adam,

I saw these photographs before anyone had made comments.

I wanted to put in my two cents worth but I was a bit overwhelmed by what I saw. I had to come back to the set a bit later.

I totally agree with Stuart’s and XVarior’s comments.

These are astonishing photographs. My favorites are # 2-3-7.

I visited your Flicker street photos. You have a unique style. Beautiful work.

Hank, JD, Carl, Louis, Ben and Lami-

Many thanks so very much. I may play around with this combo a little more, except stopped down a stop or two to reduce my focusing margin of error a little. I find that the lens produces the same wonderful bokeh even in this aperture range.

It's hands down my favorite lens, although I don't use it the most.

Thanks, Charlie. The man is actually dressed as the Penguin Man from Batman, accent and all. He was kind enough to stop for a second so I could hold focus, even though I didn't have any cash on me. I told him it was for a "Magazine.". Great fun in Times Square.

Thanks, Tim, and fully agree. Assuming the colors come out ok, the M9 is perhaps just as pleasing to use with the lens vs the MM, although I think I would give the edge to the MM due to the absence of purple and green fringing.
