A miller Posted September 19, 2014 Share #1 Posted September 19, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Well, not me, per se. But I saw these two lovely girls on the corner of 42nd and 5th avenue and then I saw this handsome young man approach, and I thought that all three ought to know each other b/c they have a similar look. So I stopped the young man, introduced him to the young girls, and then asked them to pose for me. They happily (or at least patiently) indulged me so that I could take this meaningless photo. I was quick so as to not waste too much of their time. And then we all went about our way... Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted September 19, 2014 Posted September 19, 2014 Hi A miller, Take a look here I made some new acquaintances on the street. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Brenton C Posted September 19, 2014 Share #2 Posted September 19, 2014 I was gonna commend you on your courage for taking that photo -- all the more commendable you took it without getting one of those famous New Yawk "I'm gonna kill you" scowls! But then your explanation ups the ante -- you actually stopped these people and got them to cooperate with you. I'm impressed! The different expressions from each of them is delightful. And that fellow's flat cap is a classic that never goes out of style. Since about A.D. 1325, I read!
A miller Posted September 19, 2014 Author Share #3 Posted September 19, 2014 Many thanks, Brenton. I don't do this often. It really depends on my mood and the particular rhythm I am in. The worst thing that could happen is that I get told to get lost and sworn at, which I am totally ok with (and am even a bit numb to) All the best, Adam
topoxforddoc Posted September 20, 2014 Share #4 Posted September 20, 2014 Adam, In a way I prefer this to your recent series of starker flash street pics. Like it!
MarkP Posted September 20, 2014 Share #5 Posted September 20, 2014 The lack of eye contact with the camera suggests that they were indeed politely humouring you rather than being enthusiastic participants. Full marks for your street chutzpah!
A miller Posted September 21, 2014 Author Share #6 Posted September 21, 2014 Many thanks, Charlie and Mark - I actually asked them to look away. I think the girl in the middle executed the best. But the girl on the far left was clearly indulging me through and through. From the moment I said hello to the moment I said goodbye.

Hank Taylor Posted September 21, 2014 Share #9 Posted September 21, 2014 Adam, your problem is you live in New York City with people who are oppugnant in their approach to each other. Here in the Philippines all you need to do is point your camera in their directions and they come running "Take My Picture". Hank Welcome, dear visitor! sharookh Posted September 21, 2014 Share #11 Posted September 21, 2014 Adam, your problem is you live in New York City with people who are oppugnant in their approach to each other..........Hank Frankly, whilst in NYC, I found whomsoever we ( Stuart, Adam, Ben, myself) approached, "approachable". You would get the odd ball character who'll say no to be photographed, but all in all I was very pleasantly surprised by the people in NYC.
A miller Posted September 21, 2014 Author Share #12 Posted September 21, 2014 Hank - I love your shot, particularly while imagining that the behavior was elicited simply by point a camera in their direction. This made my morning
